Oscar Dick

I joined the IVORI team in 2023 as a PhD candidate at the Snow Research Centre of Grenoble.

I have a background in physics and mechanical engineering with a double Master’s degree obtained from the French engineering school ENSTA Paris and the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). During my first years in the academic world, I had the desire to combine my educational background with my fascination for snow, which led me into the field of avalanche dynamics.

My research within the IVORI project focuses on the physics behind snow microstructure evolution. The first step was to conduct an extensive lab experiment campaign to gather a large 4D data set of X-ray tomographic images of snow microstructure evolving in a controlled environment. The high spatial and temporal resolution of these time series will help unravel the laws governing geometrical and physical properties of snow during metamorphism. I also took part in the field campaign of the IVORI project in the Canadian high arctic during two months in fall 2023.
